Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University has journeyed through twenty remarkable years. During these times, the school has adhered to a distinctive educational philosophy, cultivating a great many outstanding students. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, “We Were Young and Bright: Alumni Interviews on the 20th Anniversary of BNBU” was born. It is not only a deep review of the school's development process, but also a vivid display of the alumni's extraordinary achievements and enterprising spirit.
From its humble beginnings to today's flourishing development, every step of the College has been fueled by the dedication and hard work of countless individuals. The philosophy of Whole Person Education and Liberal Arts Education nourish the heart of every student and give them the courage and ability to explore the world. In this free and open academic atmosphere, our students dare to break conventions and bravely pursue their ideals, laying a solid foundation for their future.
Opening this book feels like unlocking a gateway to diverse worlds. The more than 40 alumni featured within, coming from different academic disciplines, each shine brightly in their respective fields.

Yang Guowei, once a student who barely made it into the university through supplementary admissions, rose to become a civil aviation captain. During his time at BNBU, he not only overcame the challenge of English-medium instruction, but also overcame difficulties from an environmental science student to a pilot. His journey exemplifies the power of BNBU's “Whole Person Education” philosophy, which empowers students to explore and grow across different fields.
As the first graduate of politics and international relations, Chen Jiaxin's study time at BNBU was an important starting point for him to pursue his dream. From campus to the founding of the "Herder Studio" and the launch of the "Phoenix Club", to the research and development of the "xcurrency" APP, he has practiced the educational spirit of BNBU at every step - global vision, lifelong learning, and curiosity about the world. He used his actions to explain how students can break the routine and open up a new world in the business field under the training of BNBU.
In BNBU, Liang Dong has achieved a remarkable transformation from a journalism student to a leader in the photography industry. On campus, he is active in different fields, integrating news, art, music and other elements to form a unique creative style. BNBU's free academic atmosphere and rich resources provide him with cross-border development, allowing him to find a balance between business and art, and shine in the world of light and shadow.
Shao Chenhan embarked on his academic journey in the "unfinished" environment of BNBU. Facing the difficulties brought about by the epidemic and the cultural impact of the exchange student period, she not only overcame difficulties, but also found her own academic direction with the tenacity and thinking ability cultivated by BNBU whole-person education. Finally, she won a full scholarship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study for a doctorate. She contributed to academic development, integrating quantitative analysis and humanistic care into urban regulations.
Jia Fan, a 2014 graduate of BNBU, majoring in accounting, showed extraordinary leadership and sense of social responsibility during college. He organized a team to build Hope Primary School for children in mountainous areas of Guizhou. Later, he embarked on the road of entrepreneurship, founded “BEEPLUS”, and became a pioneer in exploring the transformation of office and living space. He was selected into many important lists such as Forbes's under-30 elite list. He also set up the “BEEPLUS Scholarship” at his alma mater to give back.
Dai Jianjin, also from “BEEPLUS”, as an alumnus of applied psychology in 2015, is a post-90s Hong Kong youth who devoted himself to entrepreneurship when he was in school. Now, as the co-founder of “BEEPLUS”, he has been awarded the first "Shenzhen Youth May Fourth Medal" and was selected as the Forbes 2020 Under 30 Elite List. He actively built a communication and development platform for start-ups in Hong Kong and Macao, and helped the construction of the service hub project for young returnees in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In the academic and business fields, Gong Daojun's alumni has made great achievements. He has a bachelor's degree in engineering majoring in computer science and technology from Hunan University. Later, he obtained a master's degree in artificial intelligence and digital media from BNBU, and is currently studying for a doctorate in electronic information. After joining Jinshan Software in 2004, he has held many important positions. Now, as the vice president of Jinshan Software Group, he has rich experience in the management of science and technology enterprises and is active at the forefront of the Internet and digital technology industry.
As a graduate of computer science and technology in 2018, Wu Kefu has had a different and wonderful experience. He gave up the opportunity to be admitted to graduate students in many universities and chose to participate in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in the gap year. He experienced the storms on the Zhuhai and showed his fearless spirit of challenge. In addition, he also interned at Microsoft Asia-Pacific Headquarters, won awards in the sailing competition and served as a referee. At the same time, he assisted in the school's research projects in professional and interest areas.
There are also many alumni. Although they are not described in detail here, they are also shining brightly on their own lifepaths.
The experiences of these alumni are the most vivid footnotes on the school's concept of educating people. The school taught them not only professional knowledge, but also a kind of courage to face the unknown, a spirit of never giving up and a responsibility to care about the world. Whether at the forefront of academic research or on the battlefield of fierce commercial competition; whether they are engaged in public welfare or committed to educational inheritance, alumni are interpreting the spirit of BNBU with their own actions.
This book is a close link between the alma mater and alumni. It carries the memories of the past and the expectations for the future. I hope it can become a bright light, illuminate the way forward for those who come later, and inspire more students to thrive on this fertile land and bravely pursue their dreams. Let's look forward to the future, BNBU will continue to write a brilliant chapter in the new era.
